What Is Ham Radio?
Ham radio — officially known as amateur radio — is a fascinating hobby that lets people communicate with each other wirelessly using radio waves. From chatting with someone across town on a handheld radio to making contact with stations on the other side of the world using HF, ham radio offers a unique blend of technology, adventure, and human connection. At its core, ham radio is about communication without limits. You can talk to fellow hams in your local area, across the country, or even with astronauts on the International Space Station. It doesn’t rely on the internet or cell phone networks — all you need is a radio, an antenna, and a license.
